The Supporting Male Protagonist Becomes Life's Winner [Quick Transmigration]

Chapter 14: The Soft Rice Man Who Cheated(3)

Yan Su anticipated that the Wu family would not welcome Rui Hongmei, so when Wu's father called him into the room for a talk, he was prepared.

Sure enough, Wu's father questioned him sternly, "Why did you bring them mother and son back?"

Yan Su was taken aback for a moment, then firmly replied, "Dad, Hongmei is my wife, and Hao Hao is my son. I've ignored them for three years, but now that I'm about to graduate from college and will soon be able to get a job, isn't it right to bring them back?"
Wu's father frowned, seemingly unable to understand his words. "What about Yinyin? Where do you place her?"

Yan Su knew Wu's father wouldn't accept Rui Hongmei and her son, especially since Gu Yinyin was considered the future daughter-in-law of the Wu family. So, he didn't intend to hide Gu Yinyin's involvement. Gu Yinyin enjoyed a better treatment in the Wu family than Wu Jiaze, and Yan Su didn't want to conceal the truth for her.

He directly told Wu's father, "Yinyin is dating a boy named Jing Xiqi from our school. This time, she suggested to me to bring Rui Hongmei and her son back from the village. She said she already has a good future and can't let me delay my life or watch me abandon my wife and child."

This wasn't a fabrication; every word was Gu Yinyin's original words.

Wu's father's initial disapproval turned to shock upon hearing this revelation. His eyes widened, "What are you saying? Yinyin is dating another boy at school? When did this happen?"

Seeing his determination to get to the bottom of things, Yan Su explained briefly. However, he omitted the heartaches and misunderstandings between Gu Yinyin and Jing Xiqi.
Learning that Gu Yinyin had already found someone else, Wu's father was momentarily dazed and distracted.

Taking advantage of the situation, Yan Su opened the door and left. He hadn't forgotten that Rui Hongmei and her son had been looked down upon by the Wu family due to their worn-out clothes on their first day at the Wu family's house. So, he had specially bought them new clothes and shoes.

But to his surprise, as soon as he entered the living room, he heard Wu Ningning's sharp voice, "These country bumpkins have no manners. How dare the brat hit my son! I'll fight you!"

She had a distorted face and was about to hit Wu Hao.

Wu Hao, being a wild child from the countryside, wasn't afraid of her. He was about to fight back, but Rui Hongmei held him back tightly.

Yan Su intervened to stop Wu Ningning and reprimanded her sternly, "As an elder, why would you try to hit him on his first visit? What kind of behavior is that?"

Then he turned to Rui Hongmei and asked, "What happened?"

Rui Hongmei hesitated and glanced at Wu Ningning and her son, but didn't say anything.
Understanding her hesitation, Yan Su encouraged her, "Don't be afraid. Just tell the truth. We're just here to visit, and we won't be staying here. You and Hao Hao won't have many chances to see her in the future."

Her husband's words relieved Rui Hongmei, who had been on edge since they arrived in the city. She had been afraid of embarrassing her husband or causing trouble, but knowing that they wouldn't be staying with the Wu family in the future eased her mind. So she explained what had happened earlier.

It turned out that Wu Hao was wearing a pair of new sneakers, which Yan Su had bought for him. However, Wu Ningning's son, who came from a less fortunate family, had seen the shoes and wanted them too. When Wu Ningning's son couldn't get the shoes, he tried to take them from Wu Hao, which led to the altercation.

Yan Su's expression turned cold upon hearing this. He looked displeased as he addressed Wu Ningning, "If your son wanted new shoes, you should have bought them for him. Why did you hit my son?"

Wu Ningning, still restrained by Yan Su, couldn't move and blushed, "The children were just playing around. My son just wanted to borrow his shoes for a couple of days. Is there a need to make such a big deal out of it?"

Yan Su snorted, "Just playing around? Then why did you hit my son?"
Wu Ningning began to regret her actions. She shouldn't have provoked Rui Hongmei and her son. She had thought they were ignorant country folk who wouldn't cause any trouble, especially since Wu Jiaze usually favored her. But now, Wu Jiaze had unexpectedly turned against her and sided with Rui Hongmei and her son.

With an unpleasant expression on her face, Wu Ningning's eyes darted around, and she noticed Gu Yinyin sitting quietly at the dining table. An idea formed in her mind, and she called out, "Yinyin, come and help me persuade Second Brother. Is it necessary to make such a big deal out of this?"

Gu Yinyin, caught off guard by Wu Ningning's call, inwardly cursed.

Wu Ningning had always been jealous of her, and now that she was in trouble, she suddenly remembered her. But Gu Yinyin had always been portrayed as kind, brave, and helpful in the Wu family. Wu Jiaze, in particular, had always been obedient to her. So Gu Yinyin stood up, calmly and gracefully, and said to Yan Su, "Jiaze, Ningning was just being impulsive. Don't take it too seriously. She's struggling to support her two children and even asked for money from her mother-in-law before dinner. Besides, it's normal for children to envy each other. Ningning actually wanted to teach her son a lesson; she just got a little too impatient, which made it seem like she was bullying Wu Hao."
To others, Gu Yinyin's words seemed reasonable.

But Wu Ningning glared at her resentfully.

This Gu Yinyin was really cunning. Not only did she explain the situation, but she also subtly criticized her, implying that she was going to her mother's house to borrow money.

Once this was heard by the eldest sister-in-law, who hadn't been aware of the situation, there would surely be trouble.

Sure enough, Wu Ningning glanced at the eldest sister-in-law and saw that her expression had changed.

In the past, regardless of what Gu Yinyin said, Wu Jiaze had never contradicted her. He always answered her with a flattering tone. This time, however, the Wu family thought the matter would end there.

Little did they know, although Yan Su had released Wu Ningning, he didn't intend to let the matter slide. Instead, he looked around the living room at all the Wu family members and said solemnly, "Hao Hao is my son and the grandson of the Wu family. As long as he hasn't done anything wrong, I won't allow anyone in the Wu family to bully him. I hope all of you remember this. Ningning, apologize to him."

Wu Ningning was about to sit down again for dinner when she was shocked to hear Yan Su ask her to apologize to Wu Hao.
She couldn't believe it and pointed at the skinny little boy, "Second Brother, you want me to apologize to him?"

Yan Su looked at her coldly, "Why not? Didn't you try to take his shoes and pinch his ear just now?"

Wu Ningning never expected the situation to escalate to this point. In the past, she had always been considerate to everyone in the family, especially to Second Brother, who had always been pampered by her. But now, Second Brother was embarrassing her in front of the whole family because of the wild child they brought from the village.

Feeling utterly ashamed, she burst into tears and ran away, covering her face.

Her husband followed, embarrassed, with their child.

The family was in turmoil, and Wu's mother was not pleased. She looked at Rui Hongmei with disdain, "Jiaze, you've gone too far. Apologize to your sister later, and buy her son a new pair of sneakers."

She ordered in a commanding tone.

As the second son in the family, Wu Jiaze had always tried to please everyone in the family. He lived in the school dormitory and would buy some cooked food every weekend to improve the family's life.

Wu's mother and the others were used to his attentiveness, and they were taken aback by his outburst.

Especially Gu Yinyin. She had thought she had control over Wu Jiaze, but now she suddenly realized that she might not really understand this man.
For some reason, Wu Jiaze's scolding of Wu Ningning and his defense of her and her son in front of the whole family made her feel both strange and admiring. She couldn't help but think that a man who was willing to protect his wife and child was a true man, full of masculine qualities. Perhaps no woman could resist the charm of such a man.

Yan Su didn't care about what she was thinking.

Since Wu Jiaze's return to the village to bring back Rui Hongmei and her son had been sudden, and nothing had been prepared, he had initially planned to let them stay with the Wu family for two days until they found a place to rent.

But now, with this situation...

He curtly replied to Wu's mother, "Impossible," and then left the house with Rui Hongmei and Wu Hao.

Rui Hongmei, holding her son's hand, was a bit at a loss. "Jiaze, where are we going now?"

Yan Su hesitated for a moment, then looked gently at her. "There's a hotel near the school. We'll stay there tonight and look for a place to rent tomorrow."
Rui Hongmei had never stayed in a hotel before, and she was worried about the cost, but seeing Yan Su's confident demeanor, she inexplicably felt less fearful of the unknown life ahead.

In fact, Yan Su didn't have any money in his hands either. Wu Jiaze's income came from the school's living allowance, and he had used most of it to please Gu Yinyin and the Wu family.

So after this night, he rushed back to the school dormitory and sought help from a roommate named Xu Feibai.

Xu Feibai's family was well-off. He and his widowed mother lived in a small courtyard in Yan City. After Xu Feibai went to college, his mother, who was lonely at home, rented out the spare rooms.

In Yan Su's memory, Xu Feibai had just mentioned in the dormitory not long ago that their previous tenant had moved out, and his mother was eager to rent out the room but couldn't find a suitable tenant.

After learning about Yan Su's plight, Xu Feibai was surprised. He agreed to help Yan Su and told him that his mother was indeed looking for a tenant and would be willing to rent out the room to them.

Xu Feibai had always had a distant relationship with Yan Su in the dormitory, but he knew that Wu Jiaze was sticking to Gu Yinyin, even though Gu Yinyin had another boyfriend.
He didn't approve of this behavior, but as a roommate, he didn't want to interfere too much.

He had thought that Wu Jiaze was single, but he didn't expect him to be such a scumbag who abandoned his wife and child.
